We may advance the hypothesis that this panel is by the young Maso di Banco, active in Giotto’s workshop, and that it comes from the altarpiece of the same palatine chapel of Castel Nuovo in which there are remains of frescoes in the window-splays that are comparable to this work and similarly traceable to the early activity of the Florentine master around 1330.
